Chinese is a fascinating language, but it can also be challenging due to its many special characteristics. For example, at the writing level, it is a rather complex language since it consists of characters that can be combined in various ways to create new meanings. In addition, modern Chinese uses two types of characters: simplified characters (used mainly in mainland China) and traditional characters (used in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and other regions).
At IPT Translations we offer Chinese translation services, and we take into account all the characteristics of this language. We know that for translations it is as important to know the words and expressions as the context surrounding them. Find out more about our translation process here.
The language with the most native speakers in the world
Chinese is the most widely spoken language in the world thanks to its large number of native speakers. It’s not only the official language in mainland China, but also in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, and Macau. Although the country’s official language is Mandarin Chinese, in other regions people speak different types of dialects, such as Cantonese, Wu, Min, Hakka, and Xiang, among others.
Another interesting feature of this language is that, unlike other languages, Chinese does not use a conventional alphabet but is based on independent characters. This language has tens of thousands of different characters, although it’s estimated that it’s only necessary to know around 2,500 to understand everyday texts. Mandarin Chinese, on the other hand, is a tonal language. This means that the meaning of a word can change depending on the tone with which it is pronounced. Mandarin has four main tones and one neutral tone.
How is the translation process for this language carried out?
The procedure for translating documents into Chinese with IPT is simple and is carried out as follows:
- First, a quote is requested using an online form. In this request, you must attach the file, indicate the language you would like to translate into (in this case Chinese), and specify the estimated delivery time.
- Once the quote is approved, the project will be assigned to a specialized translator, usually a native Chinese speaker, who will start working on the translation.
- Upon completion, a project manager will review the document to ensure that the translation is accurate and meets quality standards.
- The translated document will be sent by email by the agreed-upon deadline. Then, time will be provided for the client to review the work, make comments, or request adjustments, if necessary.
- Finally, we recommend that our clients keep an eye on their email to answer any questions that may arise during the translation. In addition, there is an option to create notes in the document to facilitate the translator’s understanding of the purpose of the text.
